This is a section of Ashland's new bike and walking trail. Actually it is the newly paved old bike and walking trail. This trail now connects with the waterfront trial and makes an ~ 8.0 mile loop in town. There are still some sections that need minor work but for the most part....IT"S GREAT!!. If you have a bike and are planning to visit Ashland (PoP) bring your bike. I will post additional photos of various section of this great trail.

View looking downstream toward Lake Superior (Souix Beach flats) less than two miles as the bird flies.
View looking up stream photographed from the same spot as the photo above. Notice the elevation of the up stream run.

This fisherman was rewarded for his three hour drive to reach this spot he considered to be "paradise". The string a Steelhead, a Coho and a Brown Trout. Today he was in the right place at the right time.
Same string of fish as the photo above.

It was a beautiful day to be out and about. The Mrs. and I went "up" the Bayfield pennisula. Had lunch outside at Pier Plaza resturant then worked our way back down the pennisula stopping at Souix Beach flats. We walk on the beach and watch fisherman it both boats and wading catch fish. Steelheads and Brown Trout was the report from the wading fisherman. The fall colors are well along and should peak next weekend. Applefest is usually the first weekend in October but I don't believe it is until the following weekend this year.

This week saw the removal of the north Soo Line bridge crossing over Vaughn Ave. It was a week long project with the majority of the salvaged steel removed from the site by Friday. Local media reports that the Main Street (2nd) east end viaducts and scheduled for removal. I'll be watching.

The sea caves or ice caves (depending on the season) can be seen in the cliffs along the waters edge. The caves can only be reached from the lake by boat or on the ice in the winter.

On many an occasion I've seen an eagle sitting on this exact perch. This is the first time I've been able to get a photo.
It didn't tolerate me for long though. Once it flew off it crossed in front of the beautiful fall foliage adding wonderful color to the these two photos.
For those familiar with the Grandview Wisconsin area these photos were taken in the "dip" just south of town I believe it is at the Eighteen Mile Creek crossing.
The day before in this same area I saw four adult turkeys on the hillside just north of where this eagle is perched.
