Gull post. Super Bowl sunday tribute.

OF COURSE the pun was intended! Well that's as close as I'm going to get to any football and goal posts today or for that matter most other days.

Grandview WI. Bald Eagle.

Snowy very overcast day. Moments before this photo was taken this eagle was feeding on a deer carcass along WI Hwy. 63 just north of Grandview WI. This eagle never gave me a chance to get out of my vehicle before it decided to take it's "lunch" and go somewhere quiet to eat. My guess is somewhere in the Chequamegon National Forest.

Farm country sunsets.

These three photos were all taken within ten minutes of each other. The series was taken along a long country road running north and south. Sunsets in northern Wisconsin always offer breathtaking views. These were taken just west of Sanborn Wisconsin.

Recovered vehicle from January 30 post.

This recovery took nearly four hours of preparation. In the top photo the diver is entering the water to hook the tow cable. In the second photo the car is winched out of the water. In the third photo the doors were opened to empty the water. The bottom photo is the recovered car with wrecker. Anyone want to buy a slightly wet car?

Ashland Wisconsin birders.

Ryan Brady (L) and Erik Bruhnke (R). If you're a birder and you're visiting the Ashland WI, Chequamegon Bay area these are the guys you want to hook up with. This photo was taken at the Ashland Marina looking east toward the oredock. The photo was taken while Ryan and Erik were digiscoping the snowy owl seen below. Ryan is a raptor biologist and Erik is a Northland College student. See Ryan and Erik's birder postings on this web site.

Digiscoping. For those who have emailed to ask. This is digiscoping. The term describes using a digital camera with a spotting scope to take photos. In this photo Ryan Brady is aligning his hand held digital camera up to the eye piece of his spotting scope. With the right match up of equipment and a little practice you can take excellent photos. Go to this web site and follow the links to some of Ryan's photos.

Sharp-shinned hawk. Probably immature female.

This bird was seen just east of the Chequamegon Hotel.

Snowy Owl. Note: Click on any photo for a larger version.

WOW! Who could ask for a better day. If you haven't already found the local birders site now is the time. Go here. This site is updated almost daily by some of Ashland's best birders. This has to be the most photographed Snowy Owl in 100 miles. Again thanks to Ryan Brady.

Gyrfalcon.

This Gyrfalcon had just left it's perch on the upper rail of the oredock. The left side of this composite photo shows the distance at which the photo was shot. The right side is the bird zoomed in to maximum enlargement without serious distortion.
