Mad City 2007 Edition

Mad City 2007 Edition. State Street. It's A tough choice for cuisine. We decided on Italian in honor of Joe AND Gin and... in honor of Rick. Great weather. Very little snow. Lot of young people having fun. Bartender another round.

Spring attractions.

These Finches and Cardinals are in spring mode. Of the hundreds of photos I've taken of Cardinals in our neighborhood this is the first photo I've taken with the male and female in the same frame. Don't miss the female in the lower right corner. Most often they are in different trees often a half a block away.

The "Chief" catches his limit of Cohos.

The "Chief" and his catch.

Some fine eating ahead.

A week ago this guy was fishing in the Gulf of Mexico in 80+ degree weather.

I always love the sunsets on the bay.

Great day of fishing on Chequamegon Bay. For the last few years the bay has been called the "dead sea". This year has been different. This year everyone has been catching fish.

Not much happening on the bay.

There is always something to photograph in the hot pond. These ducks and geese (or others) are here in the hot pond year around.

A Road Less Traveled

Lunar Eclipse. March 03, 2007

Receding lunar eclipse.

Fellow eclipse watchers.

MichiganTech. Concrete Canoe racing team.

Cheguamegon Bay hot pond. You never know what you'll see. Today it was the MichiganTech Civil Engineering Department's Concrete Canoe.

The "team" was in the hot pond training for an upcoming race. The team had driven over from Houghton MI to train because "there is always open water here". I got a chance to "inspect" the boat and it looked quite sea worthy.

I'm told it weighs in at around 175 lbs and is 19 feet long. It appeared to be quite quick as it manuevered the course. Portages looked like they might require some extra effort.

I'm told even if it was filled with water it would float. A concrete boat weighing 175 lbs would float. OK! I guess that's why I'm not an engineer. I would have bet otherwise.

It was cold and windy on the bay today but it didn't seem to discourage this crowd. Good luck in your up coming race. Thanks to the team for taking the time to explain your unusual craft and activities.
