Inside the windows. Post # 1001

Enjoy.

This turns out to be my 1001 post. I started this blog in October 2005. I have taken tens of thousands of photos and posted only a very small percentage of those.  The site has had 40200 visits.  I hope you have enjoyed most of those photos and the notes attached.  I hope you have seen a few that made you say wow and inspired you for a moment. I hope you have told your friend and family members about this website.

For those of you that have never seen this part of the country I hope these photos have made you add this region to your must see some day list.

For those of you that have lived here and now are worlds away I hope that these posts have made you feel like you were "home again" for a brief moment in your day.

For me I am shooting for 2000.
Bonus.. Enjoy.

The last of the colors in bloom now. Enjoy.

It isn't camping weather. It's John Deere green machine weather.

This and the photo below were taken by my wife Donna with the new 7D Canon. Oh! ya!.. and she was also the videographer on the video below.

The Little Guy is tucked in for winter.

If ONLY.. it went this fast in real time. 2 minutes 15 second.. DONE!

On the east side of town. Still on the bay.

Second Landing
Summer boat launch and winter ice road landing. By mid January this boat launch will become the on and off landing road for ice fishermen. From here fisherman head east toward Bad River and Brushpoint and west toward first landing and the east side of the lighthouse / break wall. Or straight out to their favorite spot from years past. View looking slightly west of North.

Red x is the location of Second Landing.

West side of the Second Landing breakwall. Early ice? See it.
In the distance. Lighthouse and the Barksdale water tower. Pre-GPS navigational aides.

House plants. It's that time of the year.

When the weather changes and you need some color to photograph it's always nice to have the option to move indoors. This plant is now 28 years old and still offers great beauty each year at this time.

This plant is the youngster. Some call these Christmas cactus others call them Holiday cactus which is probably the best description. Here we are a few days from Thanksgiving and they are in bloom. In a month they will still be in bloom at Christmas.

First winter storm 2010.

What a difference 24 hours makes. See the post below. Yesterday was warm and calm along the waterfront. Today was not.

It wasn't a blizzard but it's no longer summer.

John J. Boland in port Ashland WI. November 12, 2010. Unloading video.

John J. Boland (680 feet) alongside coal dock in Ashland WI. Photo taken from the 'hot pond' looking northeast.

Visit this website for more info: By George Wharton or http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/boland.htm
This self-unloading lake bulk carrier was built by the Bay Shipbuilding Co., Sturgeon Bay, WI and launched March 10, 1973 for the American Steamship Co, Buffalo, NY. as the Charles E. Wilson. In January 2000 the Wilson was renamed John J. Boland. That year while at Fraser Shipyards in Superior for lay-up crews welded the new name on the vessel. The name change followed the sale of the former John J. Boland to Lower Lakes Towing, Port Dover, ON; now sailing as the Saginaw.
