Why does a bear cross the road?

Answer: I still don't know I was to busy getting the picture to see what the bear was doing.

Look close it is there near the center of the road. These photos were taken through the windshield.

A photoshop version of the shot up above.

A 200x photoshop version of the top photo.

To work and back.

Spotted these turkeys on the way to work yesterday morning.

On the way home I spotted this guy.

This guy was trying to cross Sanborn Ave east to west north of Hwy.118 He /she was very patient.

After 10 minutes or so of sitting and waiting it decided to run south along the ditch. Popping up here and there. Eventually it disappeared..... I waited and waited from a distance expecting it to popup and cross the road.

After 10 minutes or so I decided to slowly drive closer to the spot where I had last seen it. I knew it hadn't turned east because there was open field.

Where had it gone? Ok! I know you're there. Just one more photo. Several slow passes along the ditch from the opposite side of the road and no luck. Ok you have to be laying in the grass and waiting.

One more final pass along the ditch on the east side of the road. Where are you? You have to be kidding! A culvert a 4 foot wide culvert passing under the road east to west.

No bear just the culvert.

NO I didn't get out and look but I'll bet this bear has found a safe way across Sanborn Ave.

Update: Well curiosity got the better of me so I drove back to the culvert to see if it pass straight through and was large enough for a bear to pass. Sure enough it went straight through. I'm sure it was the bears escape route.

"All work and no play...." ? Not this weekend.

This bar and restaurant is on Highway 70 West of Woodruff/Minoqua WI.

A plaque on the bear in part read "This Black Bear boar ranks as the largest skull ever in Wisconsin. Shot in early June 1961 in Sayner, it weighted 669 lbs."

This is a great little bar and restaurant. The pizza, beer (34 kinds) and ambiance was great. The bar could be described as a sports bar. March Madness on the TVs. Hunting and fishing mounts on the walls. And of course Packer stuff everywhere.

Is that Bart Starr passing to a turkey?

Just once.... say on a 2 wt fly rod. What a fish!

Oh! did I mention the bar has entertainment. Including this guy and a Blues band last Saturday night.

Traffic Hazard?

This Black Bear caused the re-routing of traffic on a section of US Hwy 2 in Ashland. The DNR and local police decided to re-route the traffic to "encourage' the bear to leave the tree. Several hours later the bear was was still in the tree and traffic was re-routed. Note the claw marks on the tree trunk.

Yearling Black Bear

This young Black Bear was spotted near the school today. It appeared to the many bystanders to be either recently out of hibernation or sick. My observation was that it had little energy and want to lay down and rest. The DNR was called and hopefully helped move it to a save environment.
