Migratory bird watching. March 26, 2006

Beautiful sunny day on the "tower" at the NGLVC (Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center) for migratory bird watching. A few birds were spotted including Bald eagles, Robins, Killdeer, Red-tailed hawks, and a Harrier. At one point there were seven bird watchers on the tower. A larger group than usual.

But the spot of the day was the Milbert's Tortoiseshell Butterfly below. Photo and ID by Ryan Brady.

I just read your comment over at Morning Martini. Hop in the car, we have plenty of room. Thanks for the "cold one" :)

We have to go in a boat over to the island to look for the plovers. Tough job, huh? Yes, I packed sunscreen.

Last year I purchased several twigs of pussy willow at our florist because they are just so damned pretty.

See you when I get back, maybe I'll have some worthy photos to share.

Have a fun safe trip.

Love the butterfly, and it's nice to see so many enjoying the view.

We decide to move to Portland, OR this summer, partly because your photos make me yearn for trees.

Hope all is well.

All is well in Ashland. It seems you have had a busy few weeks.

Wow a move. That's brave. Although I've never been to Portland I hear great things about it.

A few more weeks and our trees will start leafing out. I've made note: I owe Kat tree pictures.

Hey, I see by your profile that you have a birthday coming up, me too. Mine is April 10. It's amazing how many Aires I seem to run into in this wonderful computer world. Birds of a feather?

Yeah. I need trees, and a I need a vegetable garden with giant handmade wooden compost bins... I can't wait.

Tree pics would be nice. Hope you are well.
