Killdeer distraction display.
Adult Killdeer perform conspicuous broken-wing distraction display (photos 2 & 3). This display is use to draw predators away from nesting sites (photo 4). These photos were taken on the Lake Superior shore.

That big yellow book is just about a bird bible. Never leave home without that book, binocs, and a camera when heading towards the world of the wild.
