Where has all the water gone? Down 2 feet?

By some accounts the water level in Chequamegon Bay is down by as much as two feet. Life long residence of Ashland can't remember the levels being this low. Where has it gone? Maybe we will be able to walk to Washburn before summers end.

I've heard of this before....it could have to do with a low pressure system as it moves across the lake....there's a term for it but I can't recall it right now...maybe some of the "old timers" at Sig Olson know the name.

hizzoner I believe you are referring to a seiche. I have seen perhaps 5 or 6 seiches in Chequamegon Bay since 1978.

This is probably not a seiche as this is a "long term" water loss.

I believe a seiche is "definded" by it rapid onset and short term water recession.

This link has more info: Seiche

You're right...on both counts. That's what I was thinking about and this definitely isn't it...

Thanks for the link
